Difference Between A106 And A36

Mar 26, 2024

  • ASTM A36 steel pipe belongs to the American Standard carbon structural steel pipe, the implementation of the standard ASTM A36 standard, the standard applies to bridges and buildings with riveted, bolted, and welded structures, as well as general-purpose structural steel quality of carbon steel profiles, tubes, plates, and bars. ASTM A36 steel pipe is equivalent to China's Q235 steel pipe.
  • ASTM A106 steel pipe belongs to the American Standard steel pipe, A106 includes A106-A, A106-B. The former is equivalent to the domestic 10 # material, the latter to the domestic 20 # material. A106 includes A106-A, A106-B. The former is equivalent to China's 10# material, the latter to China's 20# material. It belongs to the ordinary carbon steel series and is one of the most commonly used materials.

A106 Carbon Seamless Steel Pipe

  • ASTM A36 steel pipe chemical composition: C: ≤ 0.25, Si ≤ 0.40, Mn: ≤ 0.80-1.20, P ≤ 0.04, S: ≤ 0.05, Cu ≥ 0.20 (when the provisions of the steel containing copper)
ASTM A36 steel pipe mechanical properties: A36 steel pipe yield strength: ≥ 250, A36 steel pipe tensile strength: 400-550, A36 steel pipe elongation: ≥ 20.

A36 Structural Steel Pipe

  • A106 steel pipe chemical composition: chemical composition: carbon ≤ 0.30, manganese: 0.29 ~ 1.06, phosphorus: ≤ 0.035, sulfur: ≤ 0.035, silicon: ≥ 0.10, chromium: ≤ 0.40, nickel: ≤ 0.40, copper: ≤ 0.40, molybdenum: ≤ 0.15, vanadium: ≤ 0.08
Mechanical properties: tensile strength: ≥415MPa, yield strength: 240MPa.
Product specification: OD 21.3mm~762mm, wall thickness 2.0~140mm.
  •  To summarise, A36 is stronger than A106, which has a higher carbon content than A36, and both have different applications.
