A179 Seamless Heat-exchanger Pipe Description
ASTM A179 (SA 179) standard specification covers seamless cold-drawn mild steel tubing for use in tubular heat exchangers, condensers, and other similar heat transfer equipment. ASTM A179 pipe is available in outside diameters ranging from 1/8” to 3”, or 3.2mm to 76.2 mm. Other diameters and thicknesses smaller than the specified sizes are also applicable to this standard, but the mechanical properties do not apply to sizes smaller than 1/8 inch and 3.2 mm, or thicknesses smaller than 0.015 inch 0.4 mm.
