ASTM A234 is a standard specification for forged or wrought steel pipe fittings, including carbon and alloy steel materials suitable for medium and high temperature environments. These fittings include tees, concentric reducers, eccentric reducers, 5D/6D elbows, bends, flappers, plugs, cross tees, caps, and receivers for use in pressure piping and pressure vessel fabrication at moderate and high temperatures. The ASTM A234 specification has many grades, with WP9 being the most numerous. The letter P represents the number of the alloy material. ASTM A234 WP9 alloy steel pipe fittings are one of the commonly used chromium-molybdenum series pipe fittings. When fittings are of welded construction, the letter "W" shall be added to the above grade and marking symbols.
