ASTM A790 Steel Welded Tubes
ASTM is the American Society for Testing and Materials, and A790 is the "Standard Specification for Seamless and Welded Ferritic/Austenitic Stainless Steel Tubes". This specification defines the composition and mechanical property requirements for seamless and LSAW tubes. It also includes basic details on heat treatment, manufacturing processes, sampling and testing requirements and product marking. Additional requirements for the pipe are hydrostatic or non-destructive electrical testing, such as eddy current or ultrasonic testing (UT), to confirm product integrity. A790 pipe is manufactured through an automated welding process where no filler metal is added during the welding operation. Thermal analysis will be performed to determine the percentage of specified elements. Tensile, hardened, flattened, hydrostatic, and non-destructive electrical testing shall be performed to comply with specified requirements.
