ASTM A234 WPB Seamless Elbow, ASME B16.9, SCH 40, 4IN, BE End
Sep 11, 2025
ASTM A234 Seamless elbows (also called seamless pipe elbows) are classified into two main types based on manufacturing processes: hot-rolled/extruded seamless elbows and cold-drawn/rolled seamless elbows. Cold-drawn/rolled pipes further divide into circular pipes and special-shaped pipes.
The raw material for rolled seamless elbows is round billet, which is cut into approximately 1-meter-long billets by cutting machines and transported to furnaces for heating. The steel billets are heated in furnaces to about 1200°C, with hydrogen or acetylene used as fuel. Temperature control in the furnace is a critical factor.
After heating, the billets undergo piercing through pressure piercing machines. The most common type is the conical roller piercing machine, which offers high production efficiency, superior product quality, large piercing expansion capacity, and compatibility with various pipe types. Post-piercing, the billets undergo three-roll skew rolling, continuous rolling, or extrusion. Following extrusion, sizing is performed. The sizing machine drills holes into the steel billets at high speed using conical bits to form the pipe structure.
