Difference Between Black Irons Pipes And Galvanized Pipes
Corrosion Resistance
The main difference between black iron and galvanized pipe is their corrosion resistance.
Black iron is manufactured using low carbon steel compounds. It has a low grade carbon content. The corrosion resistance of mild steel can be further enhanced by adding carbon.
On the other hand, galvanized pipes are covered with a protective layer of zinc. The process of adding a layer of zinc is known as galvanization, which gives the pipe the desired properties of higher corrosion resistance. Additionally, galvanization helps prevent the buildup of mineral deposits that can clog the pipes.

Manufacturing Process
Another significant difference between black iron pipe and galvanized pipe has to do with their manufacturing process. Black iron pipe is made by stretching steel into a seamless pipe or pressing the edges together and sealing them with welds.
For galvanized pipe, iron bars are passed through the hot-melt zinc. Zinc heats from 820 degrees Fahrenheit to 860 degrees Fahrenheit. After coating, it is then cooled in a quenching tank to avoid adverse effects between the newly formed coating and the atmosphere.

Application Areas
Both types of pipe have unique properties that make them ideal for certain applications. The seamless nature of black iron pipe makes it the best and safe choice for transporting natural gas and propane gas. It is also used in fire sprinkler systems because it is more fire-resistant than galvanized pipe.
As we all know, black iron pipes are easily corroded by water. This is where galvanized pipe comes in. For more than 30 years, galvanized pipes have been used primarily to carry water to infrastructure. Due to its ability to resist corrosion, it can also be used in countless outdoor and industrial applications. Applications include outdoor railings, scaffolding frames, fencing, sewer lines, road signage and farm irrigation.
