Difference between LTCS and Carbon steel
Low-temperature carbon steel is mainly used in low-temperature equipment, especially welded pressure vessels.
They are low to medium carbon (0.20 to 0.30%), high manganese (0.70 to 1.60%), silicon (0.15 to 0.60%) steels characterized by a fine grain structure and uniform carbide distribution. They have medium strength and toughness down to — 50°F (—46°C).
To refine the grain and improve formability and weldability, carbon steel can contain 0.01% to 0.04% niobium. Known as columbium steels, they are used to make shafts, forgings, gears, machine parts, dies and gauges. Up to 0.15% sulfur or 0.045% phosphorus makes them easier to cut but reduces strength.
LTCS is a nickel-based alloy steel plate specifically designed for cryogenic applications down to -150°F. Mainly used for low-temperature construction of spacecraft and low-temperature applications in chemical plants below -55°C.

Carbon steel depends largely on its physical properties and grain structure. Carbon steel pipes have a higher carbon content than low temperature steel, low carbon steel or other plain carbon steels. This particular type of steel is stronger and more durable and is most commonly used in a variety of projects.
