Principle of Ultrasonic Inspection
Nov 01, 2024
Ultrasonic flaw detection is a non-destructive testing method that uses the differences in the acoustic properties of materials and their defects to reflect the ultrasonic propagation waveforms and the energy changes in the penetration time to examine the internal defects of the material.
Pulse reflection method in vertical flaw detection with longitudinal wave, in oblique radiation flaw detection with transverse wave. Pulse reflection method has longitudinal wave detection and transverse wave detection. In the ultrasonic instrument oscilloscope screen, the transverse coordinate represents the propagation time of the sound wave, and the longitudinal coordinate represents the amplitude of the echo signal.
For the same uniform medium, the propagation time of the pulse wave is proportional to the acoustic range. Therefore, the presence of defects can be judged by the appearance of defective echo signals; echo signals can appear by the location to determine the defect from the detection surface distance, defect positioning; through the echo amplitude to determine the equivalent size of the defect.
