Stainless Steel RTJ Gasket, Oval, ASME B16.20, SS 321, R49

Oct 13, 2025

The 321 metal-wound stainless steel gasket is constructed by alternately winding metal strips and non-metallic filler materials. The metal strips are made of 321 stainless steel, offering excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical strength. The non-metallic fillers typically consist of graphite, asbestos, or polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), providing flexibility and temperature adaptability to meet various operational requirements. This combination of metal strips and filler materials grants the gasket both the strength of metals and the sealing properties of non-metallic materials.

The sealing mechanism of the 321 metal-wound stainless steel gasket relies on the elastic deformation of the metal strips and the compression-rebound of the non-metallic filler materials. When flange bolts are tightened, the gasket undergoes pressure, causing the metal strips to elastically deform while the filler material compresses to fill microscopic irregularities on the flange surfaces, thereby creating an effective seal. Even under temperature or pressure fluctuations, the gasket maintains its sealing performance through rebound action.
