What is P22 material chemical composition

A335 P22 alloy steel pipe is a chromium-molybdenum high-temperature ferritic alloy steel pipe in the ASTM A335 standard, corresponding to the 12Cr2MoG material in the Chinese national standard GB5310. Its chemical composition contains 2.25% chromium and 1% molybdenum. This pipe is specifically designed for high-temperature and high-pressure environments, with an operating temperature up to 580℃ and a pressure ≥9.8 MPa. It is widely used in power plant boilers, superheaters and steam pipelines in the petrochemical industry, and high-pressure piping systems in nuclear power equipment.

The chemical composition of P22 alloy pipe mainly includes chromium (Cr), molybdenum (Mo), iron (Fe), carbon (C), manganese (Mn), sulfur (S), and phosphorus (P). The proportions of these chemical components determine the performance and applications of the alloy pipe.

• Chromium is one of the main alloying elements in P22 alloy pipe, with a content exceeding 2%. Chromium improves the oxidation and corrosion resistance of the alloy pipe, giving it good corrosion resistance under high temperature and high pressure conditions.
• Molybdenum is another important alloying element, typically ranging from 0.45% to 0.65%. Molybdenum improves the hot corrosion resistance of the alloy pipe, allowing it to operate stably for extended periods under high temperature and high pressure conditions.
• Besides chromium and molybdenum, P22 alloy pipe also contains iron, carbon, and manganese, which are the basic components of the alloy pipe. Iron is the base metal, carbon is a strengthening element, and manganese is used to adjust the mechanical properties of the alloy pipe.
• In addition, P22 alloy pipe also contains small amounts of sulfur and phosphorus. The sulfur content is typically no more than 0.045%, as excessive sulfur content can affect the cold working properties of the alloy pipe. The phosphorus content is typically no more than 0.040%, as excessive phosphorus content can reduce the toughness and strength of the alloy pipe.
