What is P92 material equivalent to
Jan 08, 2026
P92 belongs to the 9Cr-1Mo-V-Nb-W series of martensitic heat-resistant steels and is a high-alloy material optimized and upgraded based on P91 steel. Its core design replaces part of the molybdenum (Mo) with tungsten (W) and adds trace amounts of boron (B) and niobium (Nb) to form stable nanoscale carbonitride reinforcing phases, significantly improving high-temperature creep strength and oxidation resistance. This alloy system enables it to maintain superior mechanical stability compared to traditional chromium-molybdenum steel during long-term service at temperatures above 600℃, making it the "gold material" for ultra-supercritical unit pipelines.
Key Equivalents by Standard:
Grade Classification: American Standard ASTM A335/A335M (seamless steel tube), ASTM A213/A213M (boiler tube)
Corresponding Chinese Standard: 10Cr9Mo1VNbN (GB/T 20492)
Corresponding German Standard: X10CrMoVNb9-1 (DIN 17175)
Corresponding European Standard: 10Cr9Mo1VNbN (EN 10216-2)
Corresponding ASME: SA213 T92 SA335 P92
Corresponding ASTM: A213 T92
Material Characteristics:
- High-Temperature Strength and Creep Resistance:
By adding tungsten and boron, the molybdenum equivalent (Mo + 0.5W) of A335P92 is increased from 1% in P91 steel to approximately 1.5%, significantly improving its high-temperature strength and creep resistance, making it suitable for ultra-supercritical units above 600℃.
- Oxidation and Corrosion Resistance:
The chromium content is maintained at 8.50–9.50%, comparable to P91 steel, ensuring excellent oxidation and corrosion resistance.
- Optimized Physical Properties:
The coefficient of linear expansion is the same as P91 steel, lower than austenitic and P22 steel, resulting in stronger resistance to fatigue damage.
The thermal conductivity is the same as P91 steel, higher than austenitic steel, which is beneficial for heat conduction.
- Weldability:
Despite the high alloy content and the greater difficulty in welding, the quality of the welded joints can be ensured through multi-layer, multi-pass welding and rigorous post-weld heat treatment (holding at 750–770℃ for 5 hours).
